Windows 7 and "Access is denied"

Postby timberlineevents on Mon Jan 16, 2012 12:54 pm

I recently installed a fresh version of Windows 7 (I have been using SuperFlexible with Win XP for several years). With Windows 7, I'm having issues, all of which are files that will not sync or delete. I will get the following at the conclusion of running a profile in trying to sync with my laptop or an external hard drive:

Drive:\Folder\Name of file\ (5:Access is denied.) (Access problem).

I am the Administrator on both my desktop and laptop so I am very puzzled. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance. Paul

Hi,

under Windows Vista and Windows 7, programs run with limitations even if you are logged on as an administrator. Unfortunately Windows often uses quite restrictive security settings for new folders on external drives.

Please edit the properties of these folders or files in Windows Explorer and adjust the security settings (permissions), so that the files can be read and written by normal users.

Alternatively, you can run the program "As Administrator" by right-clicking (or shift-right-clicking) the program icon. If using the scheduler, it has to be installed as a service to gain full administrative privileges. See also

Thanks Tobias. I was not familiar with changing the security level at the folder level, but that did the trick.

Thanks again. Paul
